Dream a little dream...
Developer Strapped To A Meteor are bringing their unique game Mr Dreamer to the App Store tomorrow.
I've had some time to play around with this wonderfully odd endless runner and it's certainly up there as one of the more unique ideas.
The game centres around Poncho, an everyday office worker who daydreams his life away and his sidekick and cuddly companion, Cid. Poncho doesn't think much of his mundane job, and sets about trying to get as much daydreaming in as possible, much to the dismay of their Broccoli boss.
Trying to reach as high as possible in these bright, colourful worlds, Poncho and Cid have to avoid being spotted by the Broccoli Boss as well as avoiding running upside down in this topsy-turvy world. It's this flipping mechanic that we're most interested in getting to grips with, it should make for a unique experience.
A cloud bar at the top of the screen shows the daydream's 'health' and when it gets totally depleated it's time to wake up! The bar reduces when you're running the wrong way around and part of the skill in the game involves knowing when to be on the left or the right of the track, based on which way up they are. Items either help or hinder your progress, with candy going towards your happiness and bombs out to trip you up, while items marked with S give you super speed for a limited time and fill your cloud bar right back up.
Game Center support ensures that there's plenty to go back to and the high score charts are already populated with some hugely impressive scores (as well as my own score somewhere nearer to the bottom of the table).
The one finger control method works perfectly within the simple yet crafty level design to provide a challenge that's easy to control but difficult to master.
You can check out our full review of the game tomorrow.
Mr Dreamer is out on 31st July for 99c/69p. You can check out the trailer for the game here.
