Everything we know about this iPhone FPS is on this page.
To be honest, by now, I really don't think anyone is expecting Gameloft to put out genuinely original games. Technically N.O.V.A. is a new intelectual property... but at the same time it isn't a new intelectual property. Almost everything about the game screams Halo, hell even the name is 50% taken from Bungie's epic franchise.
It's fair to say however that no game developer (or publisher) would get away with this for long if the titles weren't consistently of a high quality and lucky for Gameloft they fall under this umbrella. Gangstar is a shameless GTA clone, but it's done incredibly well. Similarly Blades of Fury is an unashamed doppleganger for Soul Calibur, but damn if it doesn't play well! Modern Combat... Well, you get the idea.
So here we are once again, on the brink of another Gameloft "me too" title that we suspect will offer very little creatively, but that we anticipate will push the quality bar up another notch in terms of both gameplay and visuals. Here's what we know so far...
- You will take control of a heavily armoured space marine defending against an alien attack
- There will be both single and multiplayer modes
- Multiplayer will be possible via both WiFi and Bluetooth
- There will be two multiplayer modes, Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch
- Voice chat will be supported during multiplayer
- The single player campaign will have 12 levels
- There will be 5 weapons (including a sniper rifle, plasma cannon and some kind of assault rifle)
- iPod music access
- Slated for release in "Holiday 09"... So sometime within the next 4 weeks then.
