Four Predictions for the App Store in 2010
by Jamin Smith on Monday 4th Jan 2010

The AppGamer crystal ball is touch screen too

3. A Successful,  iPhone Specific MMO

The technology is in place for a really decent MMO on the iPhone, but nobody has yet stepped up to the challenge. We predict 2010 will see the iPhone’s first successful MMO. This won’t be anything in the same vein as World of Warcraft or Warhammer Online, but something more along the lines of Dofus or other free-to-play MMOs. Handled correctly, a game such as this could prove very popular indeed.

Perhaps you'd prefer to imagine something more like Monster Hunter on your iDevice. The team at Capcom are no longer restricted to just Sony platforms, so in theory, there's nothing stopping the series heading to iPhone. Imagine the Monster Hunter universe with all it’s MMO-esque features on your iDevice? We reckon it could well happen.

Prediction 3

4.  Innovative GPS Technology Driven Games

Turf Wars was a really interesting little App that tasked players with taking over and defending turf using the GPS technology of the iPhone. It was a real-world, territory based MMO, and one of the most unique and original titles to grace the App Store last year. 2010 will see more of them, we're betting, and they’ll prove very popular indeed. Mark our words.

Prediction 4

--

The haze is becoming thick now, and we can no longer see anything coherent in our crystal ball, meaning it’s time to put it away until next year. Can you see any of these predictions coming true? Have any of your own you’d like to add? Then don’t sit there shouting at the screen, whack your thoughts down in our comment section below.
