NOVA 2 - What We Want
by Chris Thomas on Saturday 23rd Jan 2010

What would you like to see from a sequel to NOVA?

Remove Enemy Spawning (Or At Least Decrease Frequency)

Having enemies continuously spawn into an area is tedious at best and downright lazy game design at worst. In the original NOVA you would enter a room or expanded area of the level and it might be populated be four or five enemies. Once they are dispatched, typically by running around firing the shotgun wildly, portals start to appear and more enemies will spawn, almost in batches, and you have no real clue when this will end and it seems quite arbitrary when it does. Did the Xeno just decide to give it a rest and try again in the next room? In NOVA 2 we’d love to see enemy spawning removed entirely. Instead let the level design dictate the best places for enemies to patrol, increase the quality of the AI and make each confrontation more of a tactical challenge instead of artificially ramping up the difficulty by spawning waves of cannon fodder.

8 Player Multiplayer

Not being game developers ourselves we can’t speak to the feasibility of this request, but even if it was an iPhone 3GS specific function and limited to local adhoc, allowing two teams of four to face off would be superb fun. Sure 4 person multiplayer is enjoyable and can certainly help create that “Army of Two” style sense of camaraderie between each of the two team mates but we’re starting to hanker for some bigger team battles. Combine this request with the vehicular combat and NOVA 2 could become the must have iPhone game for every competitive core gamers.

Persistent Multiplayer Characters and Unlocks

One of the reasons Modern Warfare is such a popular multiplayer game is because of the superb persistent levelling and unlocks system. Every match played earns the player experience points which at certain brackets unlocks new weapons, gear and other advantages to help customise the multiplayer experience and tip things in your favour on the battlefield. Ngmoco’s Eliminate uses a similar system and has had no problems hooking players and keeping the gamer addicted to customising and unlocking gear for their character. If Gameloft implement a similar system for NOVA 2 it would have no problem dethroning Eliminate from the most played multiplayer FPS on iPhone.

Sk3ksis, how about you shut the hell up? Yeah, coop, 8 man multiplayer and MW style perks with vehicles sounds great. Also, more melee.

All of these spammy comments seem a bit ridiculous!

Easily, the post is actually the best on this deserving topic. I fit in with your conclusions and will eagerly look forward to your upcoming updates. Just saying thanks will not just be sufficient, for the extraordinary lucidity in your writing.

Pretty insightful post. Never thought that it was this simple after all. I had spent a good deal of my time looking for someone to explain this subject clearly and you’re the only one that ever did that. Kudos to you! Keep it up

There should be aiming on every weapon, also like 2 land vehicles and 3 aerial, they should also be a "energy sword" type of weapon that can deflect bullets, also not like 6 weapons more like 3 of each so like 21 weapons like COD:Zombies...

All of the above. They should make Nova 2 a prequel to Nova and have you on the ship that crashes on the planet in the first place. you should also be able to play as aliens in the multiplayer like in BIA2 with the axis and allies.
