E3: Minigore Screenshots
by Jeff Effendi on Tuesday 2nd Jun 2009

A definitive hero-mascot-thing? John Gore sure looks the part.

From iDracula, 7 Days of Apocalypse to NanoFighter, most of you are probably familiar with the twin-stick arena shooter genre that has quickly become a favourite control-wise on the iDevices. The d-pads don't infiltrate the screen, the rotating visual feedback shows response and most of all -- it's plain effective when shooting at gnarly enemies. Hell, Rocking Pocket Games' Dark Raider finally showed some life when the developers decided to change their control scheme to a twin-stick mechanism. In short, we think it's effective enough to be used in every arena shooter, and Minigore looks to be no different.

What makes Mountain Sheep's Minigore a little different though, is how their artists have developed an over-the-top pseudo-horrorgore-fest of a game so vividly. It stylistically stands out from the rest of the pack, and it seems as if the crafty folks at Mountain Sheep have single-handedly created a world that seems twisted, yet fun. Apart from their highly-anticipated shooter coming out later in the year, they have another visual feast in Hardgore, a tower defense game arriving for the iDevices and the PlayStation 3 after Minigore hits the App Store. You know they're onto something here, and you know we're in for a good time blowing up little dark critters ready to feast on you tribal-style. Ignore the screenshot just under here, the new-exclusive-screens are at the end of the article.

I wouldn't dare to speculate what sort of baddies John Gore'll need to dispose of as he totes his firearms, but from the latest screenshots we've got, they seem like 3D models of the black-spikey-Rolando-enemies we saw last year. Well, whatever it is, blood'n'guts spill out when you shoot 'em, and we sure as hell didn't get that in Rolando. Though oddly enough, the latest screenshot we received did  seem to feature a new character we've yet to be acquainted with. Is it John Gore? The Jabba-the-Hut-meets-Kroll character seems to be at the centre of the screen to us. Hmm. Well, just as we promised, here are three new screenshots from Minigore:
